Over the past we or so we have been examining the signs that addicts give off. First, they lie. Second, they tend to hang around other addicts and substance abusers. Third, they develop a lifestyle that revolves around their addiction.
This is the fifth and final installment of our blog series examining the signs addicts give off. In this installment we answer the question of what to do if you or someone you care about exhibits the sings of an addict. As reported in newswatch.nationalgeographic.com.
What Do You do?
If you’ve got the sick feeling that often accompanies noticing a number of signs of addiction in your own life or the life of a loved one, what should you do?
First, take the step of seeking help. Again a good place to start is a drug class. An online drug class is a good option.
Also, talking to a therapist or a treatment center about the behaviors you’ve observed will often shed a lot of light on what the next step might be. For some clients in-patient treatment will be needed, for others out-patient might be the next step.
If the problem is with a loved one, as hard as it may be, I encourage you to organize an intervention. I advocate the use of an intervention only with the help of a professional who is trained and experienced with interventions, and only when the situation is life-threatening.
Be very careful with this one as an intervention has serious and significant consequences. Sometimes these are good consequences, but frequently they are not.
I hope you enjoyed this series. I now encourage you to take a drug class. More information can be found here: http://www.onlinedrugclass.com/DrugClass/12-Hour-Level-2
