Would you like to know just how messed up drugs can make you? Could you ever imagine playing an active role in the death of a child? How about chopping his head off? Well, that’s precisely what happened to one mother.
When Chevonne Thomas called 911 she was barely coherent. Her son was not so lucky. One of the few things 911 dispatchers understood from her ranting, rambling call was that her 2-year-old son was dead and she was the murderer. As reported in www.washingtonpost.com.
What police found shocked even them as they found the 33-year-old son decapitated with his head placed in a freezer.
How could a mother do such a thing?
In addition to the boy’s body, they also found Chevonne’s body. After hanging up with 911 dispatchers she fatally stabbed herself.
Things could have been so much different had it not been for drugs and police allowing her to regain custody of her child. Thomas only recently regained custody of son Zahree after leaving the boy unattended in a car, telling police she had smoked marijuana laced with the hallucinogenic drug PCP and blacked out in a nearby park.
Why would they give this baby back to a mother like that?
This was not the first time she lost custody of her child due to drugs. She previously lost custody of Zahree to relatives and was ordered to undergo treatment for substance abuse and mental health disorders.
The department has been under the supervision of a federal judge and undergone a major overhaul since 2003 as a result of high-profile lapses in the oversight of children. Add one more horrific statistic to their work.
This is a tragic situation that never would have happened if Harris had not tried drugs in the first place.
