Do you know someone who is addicted to drugs? If so, how do you know? This is the third in a series of blogs addressing the primary warning signs that there may be addiction or substance abuse issues.

In the first two blogs we examined two tell-tale signs of addiction – lies and peers. As a counselor for both in-class and online drug classes I have found that those who lie about their use are trying to protect their addiction. I also have found that if a person associates with addicts there is a strong correlation with them being addicts themselves. As reported in newswatch.nationalgeographic.com.

Addiction as a lifestyle

When someone becomes addicted to a substance or behavior they begin to build a life around their addiction. It becomes the most important thing in their lives. Their addiction will become the primary motivating factor in most everything they do, from their choice in clothing, their choices in media and their lifestyle in general.

A recreational user will generally have things that are more important than drugs or alcohol in their lives and their lifestyle correspond. A full-blown addict will make every decision, every day, with their addiction first in their mind.

If your life, or the life of someone you care about revolves around your use of drugs or alcohol please seek help. An alcohol class or drug class is a good place to start. If you prefer to maintain anonymity there are both online alcohol classes and 15 hour online drug classes too. Click here to learn more about 15 hour drug classes.
