Did Lance Armstrong Need a Drug Class?

It was with great sadness that I read about Lance Armstrong giving up his challenge against allegations of doping. He overcome a near-death experience with testicular cancer. So how could he give up on something that was tarnish everything he worked so hard to achieve?

I wanted him to be innocent so badly I almost believed they were out to get him. This, despite the fact it was not an international organization coming after him but a US one. As reported in www.independent.co.uk.

But as the reputation of the seven-time Tour de France winner has been destroyed did those of us who bought into the legend ever truly believe in our hearts that Armstrong’s tale of heroism was just that? Pure, unsullied, the product of a physical phenomenon and strength of character unique in all sport?

Armstrong always seemed too good to be true. It turns out he was.

The US Anti-Doping Agency producing a 1,000-page document that lays out in jaw-dropping detail the systematic program of doping that it says Armstrong operated, on behalf of both himself and team-mates.

Would a drug class have helped him not be a cheater? I certainly do not think so. He was the hero to many of us, and yet once again we are left with nothing but disappointment. The Tour de France was one of the great events of endurance of all time. Now, all I feel is disgust both for Armstrong and the sport.
