It is terribly sad to see someone suffering from the ravages of drug addiction. It always causes premature death and always decreases their quality of life while alive. The death of pop superstar Amy Winehouse could have been a wake-up call for her ex-husband. It seems to have been a trigger for his expediting his own demise.
Winehouse's ex-husband is fighting for his life after collapsing following an apparent drink and drug binge. As reported in www.dailyrecord.co.uk.
The 30-year-old Blake Fielder-Civil was found choking in bed by partner Sarah Aspin before being rushed to hospital with multiple organ failure. He had gone out drinking with a buddy the night before, may have taken illicit drugs and was almost incoherent when he walked in the door.
Ironically, the 34-year-old girlfriend met Fielder-Civil in rehab three years. There is the legitimate possibility he will never recover.
Paramedics found him unconscious and confirmed he had swallowed his tongue and choked on his vomit.
Fielder-Civil has long battled heroin addiction and spent time in prison in 2007. He was jailed again in June last year for burglary and possession of an imitation firearm before being freed with a tag two weeks ago in preparation for his full release. The former music video assistant married pop star Winehouse in 2007 before the pair divorced two years later.
I had hoped Winehouse’s death would have scared him sober. It makes me wonder if mandatory drug education classes at a young age would have made a difference. The key is to keep kids from never trying drugs in the first place.
