Did Drug Class Help Eminem Get Sober?

Who would have ever guessed that Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) abused drugs? I will admit that I am not a big fan of rap music. There is no denying Eminem is talented, but what I appreciate most is his candor.

His lyrics are real. They speak the truth about life, at least as Mathers sees it. His candor and his music aside, I most respect his honesty about his addiction issues and his battle to overcome them. As reported in www.ibtimes.com.

Legendary rapper, producer, and actor Eminem thanked his fans for helping sustain him through dark times when he was struggling with drug abuse, depression, and tenuous relationships with his.

A horrible addiction to prescription medication has been the fodder for his past two albums. What got him sober, a drug class perhaps?

His 2010 album "Recovery" continued the trend the artist began with 2009's "Relapse" of documenting his effort to finally become sober with brutal honest-so much so that his newfound earnestness jibed unpleasantly with his former gleefully and carelessly offensive persona. Despite the divisive critical response, "Recovery" still went on to become the best-selling album of 2010.

His new album is filled with songs about Lunesta, Ambien, Vicodin, Valium, NyQuil and other brain candy that helped Marshall Mathers turn himself into a zombie, before he got clean last year.

I am hopeful he will stay clean. He is a powerful voice among our nation’s youth. I would like to see him take his new-found sobriety message and work toward keeping our youth addiction free.
